My Favorite Apps

May 21, 2011 , ,

I upgrade from a Blackberry last summer to the iPhone 4 and have never regretted my decision.  I visit the app store daily and I am always on the hunt for “an app for that.”  I have decided to pull some of my app information out of my big book of everything for you today.  Though some of these apps are only available on Apple products there are many on the Android and Blackberry markets as well.

1.  Poynt – This was my first download and favorite app still to date.  I first downloaded Poynt on my Blackberry Bold, and I use it on a daily basis.  Poynt started off as a phone directory for businesses, replacing the need for 411 costs.  The app has grown into so much more, now offering white pages,  movie times, gas prices and restaurants.  If you have not downloaded this app yet stop reading and get it.  My blog will be here when you get back.

2.  Pulse – This is a more recent download that I have on the iPhone and iPad.  Through Pulse I can add news feeds from many different categories and keep up to date on everything that I find interesting.  I have everything from the latest Tech stories to the greatest of the Epic Fails right at the touch of a button.  This app can be a real time eater if you are not careful, but well worth the download.

3. bite SMS- This is only available from jail-breaking your device, and maybe available on other markets.  This is text messaging the way it was meant to be.  Bite runs in the background and conveniently gives you options when a texts comes in so as not to ruin a game of angry birds or interrupt that movie you are watching on YouTube.  I also recommend Green Poison is you are thinking of jail-breaking your device.

  4. You Don’t Know Jack – Only the best trivia game on the market.  If you love trivia games, like to think fast on your feet, and are not afraid of a computer game making fun of you when you get your questions wrong, then this game is for you.  I first played YDKJ on the computer years ago and glad to see it making the transition to Handheld devices.  However if you want to go head to head against your friends you still need the game on a computer.

5.  Netflix – If you are ever in a situation where you have some time to kill, this app is for you.  While the app does require large data usage off of WiFi and a subscription to Netflix, it still makes it into my top 5.  Many of your favorites are available to stream and more are added everyday.  We have Netflix on my blueray player at home and have found it a great option to closing video stores and redbox.

What do you think?

Please keep your comments polite and on-topic.

I use Pulse daily on my HTC Desire HD. It looks fantastic, I now can’t go back to non-customisable news feeds. Personally some of my favourites are: Foursquare, Last.fm, VNC for controlling my Macbook from the other room, and the wordpress.com app for checking blog comments.

I have the WordPress app but have not gotten into a habit of using it much. I will check out the others, thanks for the thoughts.
